Online Poker - Too Much Of Fun

Online Poker - Too Much Of Fun
If you have already ventured into internet to play poker, say online poker is too much fun. If you haven’t played online, why not? Sure, understand there are some drawbacks, but there are several benefits that more than make up for them.
Then, of course, there is the aspect of social interaction. Internet chat boxes clearly don’t take the place of live conversation and interaction, but they do offer people the chance to feel as though they are a part of something — a special group, or a clique of sorts. You will actually met quite a few interesting people while playing online poker, some of whom have befriended and see all the time.
As is the case with anything, there are other potentially negative factors associated with playing online, depending on your personal strengths or weaknesses. If you struggle with discipline, the Internet may be either your savior or your downfall! On one hand, you are getting in twice the action, while on the other, it’s just so darn easy to click that mouse and see every flop!
It’s easy to play badly online sometimes because it may not feel like you’re playing with real money. It’s similar to the effect that switching dollar bills to gaming chips has on our perception of their worth. “What the heck, it’s just chips.” For some people, these types of disciplinary problems may mean that online poker just isn’t for them.
Now, if you suffer from ADD (attention-deficit disorder) to any degree, online poker is perfect for you. After all, you can play in up to four games comfortably at once. For most mere mortals, anywhere from one to three games at once is about all that can be handled. If you play any more than that, you are probably going to slow down the games you are in and, more importantly, miss out on too much valuable information about your opponents’ play.
Speaking of missing information, how does a friend overcome this problem when playing in six different games at once? That’s a good question! Obviously, if he were to play in just one game, he would do much better in that particular game, but not necessarily overall. For example, let’s say his earn in a $15-$30 online hold’em game is $50 an hour if he focuses on just that game. Not bad.
Now, let’s add five more games. His earn in each game probably drops considerably, because he isn’t able to focus enough on each game to play optimally. For argument’s sake, let’s say his earn drops all the way down to $15 an hour per game. Well, $15 times six ($90) is still a lot better than he’d be doing if he’d decided to play just the one game.
You can probably get seven years of poker experience in just one year of play; what a great learning tool. What better way is there to teach someone to play than to sit with them and go over hands as they come up?
Having said all of this, brick-and-mortar casinos have anything to worry about. Online poker is still just a substitute for the real thing. In fact, online poker can only help to bring more people into the game of poker, as it’s much less intimidating than entering a real cardroom for the first time with no playing experience.

play poker online

Play Caribbean Stud Poker Online January 31, 2004
Caribbean stud poker is a casino favorite of many poker and video poker fans. Your hands rank the same as in a traditional poker game (e.g. a Royal Flush is the highest possible hand.) You must beat the dealer's hand, and the dealer must "qualify" which usually means a pair of tens or better. Your payoff is then based upon your hand, with a pair paying the lowest and a royal flush paying the highest amount.
Online is a great place to learn and play caribbean stud poker!
Caribbean Stud Poker is a lot of fun to play, but just a word of warning...it is not a great returner, with a house edge of over 5% even if played optimally. So don't look to raid the casino's coffers playing this game.
The rules of the game are pretty simple...
Play begins with players placing a starting wager, called the 'ante'
Each player is dealt a 5 card, face up hand.
The dealer also receives 5 cards, although 1 is face up, the other 4 are face down.
Players must then decide whether to stay of fold. If they fold, they forfeit their ante. If they stay, they must add a further bet equal to 2x the ante ('the raise').
Once players have made their choices, the dealer reveals their cards. Now, for the game to continue, the dealer must qualify (have a minimum Ace and King poker hand). If the dealer doesn't qualify, players still in the game win even money on their ante and the raise is pushed (ie returned to the player - no win no lose) If the dealer does qualify, then the player's and dealer's hands are compared and the highest wins (applying normal poker rankings).
- If dealer's hand wins, the player loses both the ante and raise
- If the player's hand wins, the player wins even money on the ante, and gets odds on the additional wager according to the following payoff table:

how to play poker online

Guide - How To Play Online Poker July 16, 2004
If you've ever been curious about how to play online poker then you'll want to read over the following online poker guide. This guide is designed to give you a basic overview of the game concept and rules. After reading this guide you should be in a god position to play poker. We suggest you try an online casino that offers free play in order to practice a bit before placing any real wagers.
Poker Basics
Poker originated in the saloons of the Wild West and has probably the more game variations than any other game. It is puts player against players and not just against the dealer like in Blackjack. Poker involves a lot of psychology between the players during play. Bluffing (pretending you have cards that you don't) is a key part of the game and you have to make people believe you in order to pull it off.
Poker is played from a standard deck of 52 cards. Some variant games use multiple decks or add Jokers or Wild Cards.
The cards are ranked in descending order starting from the highest; Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, Ace. Ace can be high or low. There are four suits; spades, hearts, diamonds and clubs, but no suit is higher than another.
Each player is dealt five cards (called a hand). The hand highest in ranks wins. In some games there are Wild Cards or Jokers, which can be labeled whatever suit and rank the possessor wishes to.
The Ranking of Poker Hands
The ranking of poker hands starting from the highest to the lowest are as follows:
1. Royal Flush
2. Five of a Kind (with a Wild card or Joker)
3. Straight Flush
4. Four of a Kind
5. Full House
6. Flush
7. Straight
8. Three of a Kind
9. Two Pair
10. Pair
11. High Card
Five of a Kind is only possible when using wild cards and is the highest possible hand. If more than one hand has five-of-a-kind, the higher rank wins; e.g. five Aces beat five kings, which beat five queens, and so on.
Straight Flush is the best natural hand. A straight flush consists of five cards in sequence and of the same suit. An Ace high straight-flush is called a Royal Straight Flush or Royal Flush and is the highest natural hand.
Four of a Kind is a hand that contains of four cards of the same rank. The hand with the highest rank of four-of-a-kind beats other four-of-a-kind hands. If there are many wild cards, as used in some game variants, there could be two four-of-a-kind hands with the same rank. In this case, the hand with the higher ranking fifth card wins. This rule applies to hands that tie, such as a pair or two pairs. Dead heats split the pot.
Full House is a hand consisting of three-of-a-kind and a pair. Again, where Wild Cards are used, ties are compared first by the three-of-a-kind ranking, then the pair.
Flush is a hand consisting of cards that are all in the same suit in any order.
Straight is a hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence, such as 5-6-7-8-9. An Ace may either be high (A-K-Q-J-10) or low (A-2-3-4-5).
Three of a Kind is a hand similar to the four-of-a-kind hand, except that if the remaining two cards are a pair, then it becomes a Full House.
Two Pair is a hand that contains two pairs only.
Pair is a hand that contains one pair only.
High Card is a hand that is none of the above and is a weak hand. If no player has a pair or better, then the hand that contains the highest ranking card wins. If multiple players tie with the highest card, then the second highest card decides, followed by the third and so on.
Note on Wild Cards
How you use the wild card depends on the game you are playing and the rules. A wild card can be defined as a joker or standard card that, by player agreement and/or dealer's choice, can be used to represent any card you want it to be.
When a joker is in play, it usually can only be used as an Ace or to complete a straight or flush. It cannot be used as a true wild card, for example, as a king to make KK75X play as three kings. When playing for low, the joker becomes the lowest rank not already held, so 864AX is played as 8642A, with the joker used as a deuce.
Wild cards add an additional hand, five of a kind, which normally ranks above a straight flush. They can also cause confusion when two players hold the same hand composed of different wild card combinations. The standard rules of poker do not distinguish between such hands, but some players prefer to rank hands using fewer wild cards above less 'natural' versions of the same hand.
Playing Poker
In most games players must 'ante' a nominal amount just to have the cards dealt. Once the cards are dealt, the betting starts. Players bet into the pot in the middle of the table and it is done in turn clockwise.
The player with the highest rank showing, is the first to speak and to bet. He can either bet or check. By saying 'Check', he passes the decision to bet to the next player who can also check. If all players check, then it is the end of the round. Everyone opens his cards and the highest hand wins.
Only after one player places a bet the real betting starts. Each player in turn can either 'Call', 'Raise' or 'Fold'. To fold is to pass or drop out of the round and not play. To call means willing to match the bet, and the same amount must be placed on the pot. To raise means to match the bet and add an extra bet.
Say you start with a $5 bet. If someone else raises $10, he puts $15 in the pot. When your turn comes again you need to add $10 difference to the pot to stay in the game, and if you want you can also raise or even say 'Pot'. Pot is a raise to the maximum, which means to bet the same amount as the total money available in the pot.
If there are no more raises and all the cards have been dealt, then it is the end of the round. Everyone opens his closed cards and the highest hand wins the pot.
